20/8/2008 - AFS Thailand organized National Orientation
Over 2,800 YP09 finalists and their parents attended their first national orientation organized by AFS Thailand at the Miracle Grand Convention Hotel on August 16-17, 2008. The main objectives of this event were to introduce AFS partner countries, documentation arrangement, placement process and other important issues.
On 16th August, the orientation started with a welcome speech from Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, Chairman of AFS Thailand. This year, AFS received an honor from Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, Minister of Tourism and Sports, in joining the event. His experience as an AFS student to Pennsylvania, USA in 1985-86 highlighted the function to a great extent.
On the following day, the chair of the event Dr. Panya Keawkeeyoon, Office of the Basic Education Commission Director, delivered a speech “Study Abroad at the Present Days” to all participants.
Not only parents and students could receive the information from the honorable guests and AFS directors, more information and experience sharing from AFS returnees were also presented in the foyer. Parents and students were welcomed to question the returnees of the respective countries about their during the AFS programs.
The National Orientation is an annual event AFS Thailand organized for all new participants and their parent. Partner country information is provided and the inquiries about the program are to be answered. This year, from over 14,000 applicants, only 770 participants can travel to the hosting countries in 2009.
