24/8/2008 - AFS Participants do good deeds to mark the mother’s day and our beloved queen’s birthday celebration!!

Melanie Gutknecht showed her respect and gratitude to her host mother.

Mother or “Mae” in Thai word has such a big meaning for all children in Thailand. This year our AFS students join mother’s day activities countrywide. AFS students give their host mother a jasmine flower or jasmine garland, which represents the gratitude towards their mothers.

All schools in Thailand have organized the celebration by inviting the mothers to visit the schools. Children were sitting on the ground and paying respect to their mother by doing “wai”.

This year our participant in community service, Melanie Gutknecht from Switzerland participated in the ceremony. She gave jasmine and performed her “wai” to her host mother in Thailand and at the same time she sent her thought to her natural mother in Switzerland. Melanie works at her three worksites to teach blind children at school for blind children, assist Koratpitthayakom School to teach English to Thai students and help at the hospital where her host mother is working.
