24/12/2008 - VTP Reunion
On Saturday 20 December, 2008, AFS Thailand organized the VTP Reunion at KU Home, Bangkok. Over 80 participants joined the event.
Thailand VTP or Visiting Teacher Program started in 1983. The purpose of the program was to make it possible for young English language instructors to become visiting faculty members in selected high schools. The applicants for the program must be teachers by profession with at least 3 years of teaching experience. The participants stay with host families and teach at host schools.
After 25 years of the program operation, AFS Thailand has over 370 participants to Australia, Canada and USA. The AFS-VTP returnees are reported of the success in their career path and become AFS strong volunteers, supporting AFS in a variety of activities.
The opening ceremony started with the welcome speech by Mr. Apithai Buranisiri, National Director of AFS –Thailand, followed by the greeting and introduction to “AFS at Present” by Mrs. Nittaya Sararat, Director of Volunteer Development and Admissions. Later in the afternoon, all participants had participated in a brainstorming session. At the end of the session, the VTP committee was founded with strategic direction.
After the brain-drain session, finally the fun began. The reunion dinner party conducted by Mr. Chanes Nakawit, Director of Activities and Administration who is also a former VTP participant was filled with fun and laughter. The function completed with success. For the next year event the VTP committee will be the team to organize the 2nd VTP Reunion. Not only had the old friends finally met and the network has been formed, a solid committee has also been established. The voluntary spirit has been well lit with happiness and joy.
