15/7/2008 - THA - AFS Host School Advisors and Coordinators Conference and Workshop

It is the aim of AFS to work closely with host school advisors and volunteers and to support in all matters required to achieve the goal of a successful stay of participants.

The conference was started with a report from Ms. Siriluck Burapavichit, Hosting Programs Director and opened officially by Mr. Sanan Angubolkul, Chairman of AFS Thailand Board of Directors. Later on, the informative presentations were delivered by our outstanding volunteer, Mrs. Suwanee Chatwattanasukon from Triam Udom Suksa Nomklao School, Bangkok, on the topic “Roles and Responsibilities of Host School Advisors and Coordinators and Guideline for Hosting AFS Students” and followed by a member of the AFS Board of Directors, Mr. Surawat Chompoopong on the topic “How to host successfully and happily”. The morning session ended in pleasant atmosphere due to optimistic and humorous point of view of Mr. Surawat Chompoopong.

In the afternoon session AFS THA introduced new and more practical concept on orientation by dividing the advisors and coordinators into 11 groups according to the geographical area responsible by 11 Hosting Centers. This enhanced the ability of the 11 Hosting Centers to support advisors and coordinators individually and directly to their specific needs. By all purposes it helped the 11 Hosting Centers to be able to work closely and exchange the ideas easily with all schools in their areas and established cooperative network of Hosting Centers.

In the evening the advisors and coordinators joined the welcome party and exchanged gifts with all participants.

The next morning on July 7, 2008, the advisors took their participants back to their communities, where the host families and host schools were looking forward to welcoming them.
